Notes |
The native Antiguan John Tyley worked as a botanical illustrator for the Scotsman Alexander Anderson during his tenure as superintendent of the King’s Botanical Garden of St. Vincent from 1785 to 1811. Although many of the Institute’s collection of 51 Tyley watercolors are unsigned and undated, they are painted on laid and wove papers manufactured in England with watermarks dated 1794 and 1804. |
